AntiVirus Scanner Upgraded To Latest Release Can't Post
Hi.

This is to inform that we have upgraded the Antivirus Scanner To Latest Stable Release on 01st June 2004. We shall be continuously updating all running softwares to the latest stable versions so as to offer the maximum in terms of features and security and keep you updated through this Announcements Forum.

Hi.

clamav has been further upgraded to version 0.72, the latest release. We shall be regularly upgrading the same as and when the latest release is out. currently scanning for 21782 viruses and the database is updated in realtime once daily automatically.

The scanner has been upgraded to version 0.73. The Virus Scanner as on date at the time of posting this message is:

Protecting against 21978 viruses. Click To See The List Of Viruses That You Are Protected Against. The Virus Signatures Database Is Updated Automatically Daily At 04:00 Hrs and The List As Visible To User Is Updated Daily At 01:00 Hrs IST.

Hi.

As on date the virus signatures database is protecting you against 22228 viruses.
A Virus Alert link has been added to the webmail interface wich takes you to the last updated list of Virus Signatures and also the recent viruses released.

Please note that Virus naming convention differens from vendor to Vendor.
The Online database is updated daily and so also the database text for public view. Please note that the Virus Signatures Database text file is >300 KB file and hence it may take a while for complete download onto your browser.

Hi

Anti Virus Scanner has been upgraded to V 0.75.1 which is the latest stable release as on 30th July 2004. The Virus database is updated in realtime daily and currently the same stands at more than 23050 Virus Signatures that the mails are being tested for before being accepted for delivery. Similarly, all attachments being uploaded to mail by our suers are also being scanned for Virii to ensure a Virus Free Envioronment.

The Scanner Software is upgraded regularly no sooner than the stable upgraded version of the same is available.

Hi

AntiVirus scanner engine has been upgraded to latest version V0.80rc2 and with this upgrade there are many new scan options which come into play and most of them are related to various varioants of MyDoom variants of viruses. With this upgrade the engine has following scan support enabled:

OLE2 support enabled.
HTML support enabled.
Portable Executable support enabled.

We are confident that all latest viruses are being detected very efficiently and that you are completely protected from possible vius infection due to mails from our server. Also, while you upload an attachment to your mail and if it is found infected the attachment is not attached and you get a warning. So you also get a warning in case your local machine is infected, but only in the event of you uploading any attachment to mails. New mechanisms in this version have successfully protected against the new versions R,S,T,U, and V of the infamous Mydoom worm detecting them as Worm.Mydoom.Gen before virus was analysed and specific signatures added by the database maintainers. That means servers running the latest devel version of Scanner (with the new engine) have detected and blocked 100% of Mydoom attacks!

As on date of this post, you are being protected against 24345 viruses

Hi.

The automated online update of Virus Signature Database is now set to run every hour of the day 365 days a year. So as soon as a new signature is released by the Antivirus Scanner developers and Maintainers, the database oin this server is also updated within an hour of release ensuring that there is maximum protection even against lates viruses/worms.

Hi.

We have made changes to the MTA rules and now any mails which have forged HELO/EHLO are rejected rightaway. This has resulted in following:

  • Reduced Mails With Viruses, signinfying that majority of them were being sent by hijacked machines.
  • Reduction in SPAM blocked as per RBL's again signifying the above point.
Though the total count of unwanted messages remains more or less the same hovering around the 20,000 mark. However, there is a reduced load of Mail Scanning, as the number of mails with forged headers is running around 5000 mark at present which are rejected right away.

Forged headers include the following categories:

Mails from remote servers which use our interface address in HELO/EHLO command
Mails from Non Existent Domains.
Mails which present local domains in HELO/EHLO command.
Mails which defy the RFC standards.

Anti Virus Scanner Engine upgraded to lates release. ClamAV 0.80rc3 successfuly detects JPEG files with modified comment section that allows attackers to remotely execute arbitrary code on unpatched Windows machines.

Hi.

Antivirus scanner has undergone further upgrade to include further improements in features and expanse of signatures scanned. Current version is 0.80rc4 and as of writing this message more than 25200 signatures are being scanned for.

After implementing the Checks for Spammers using Faked HELO/EHLO at smtp time we have found a marked decreased in the instances of virus scans signifyin g that most virus infected spams/messages were originating from automated programs on compromised machine. You are protected against

Exploit.JPEG.* type of viruses since previous upgrade on 29th September 2004 also.

We shall keep ypu updated on this.

AV Scanner engine has been upgraded to version 0.80 which the stable version after the Release Candidate versions. This upgrade was done on 20th October 2004.

Hi.

AV Scanner upgraded to V 0.81 within an hour of official release of the same and downloads being available on the network. As on date scanning for more than 29000 signatures and signature dataase is updated online on hourly basis. Many a times, the signatures are released much ahead of commercial vendors and this is why the naming convention used for the signatures would be different from the commercial vendors.

As Available from their official website:
The scan engine has been improved. The internal mail scanner now supports multipart/partial messages, and support for decoding non-standard mail files was greatly enhanced. clamav-milter by default uses libclamav and scans emails itself without the use of clamd. libclamav can now extract RFC2397 encoded data within HTML documents, block zip archives with modified information in local header, and scan HQX files. PE file structure rebuilding from compressed executables was improved too

AV Scanner updated to version 0.82 currently protecting against 30454 signatures with new signatures added and updated automatically daily.

This release adds generic detection of MS05-002 ("Vulnerability in Cursor and Icon Format Handling Could Allow Remote Code Execution") based exploits. Fixes include correct attachment scanning in e-mails generated by some Internet worms (broken in 0.81), removed false positive "Suspected.Zip"
warning on non-standard zip archives created by ICEOWS, better proxy support in freshclam, and speed improvements.

Hi

Within 48 hrs of release, we have updated the AV scanner to version 0.84. Currently 34050 signatures are being scanned for as on date and the signatures databse is updated in real time 8 times a day (ie every three hours). There have been numerous instances where the signatures database is updated well ahead of commercial AV scanners.

AV Scanner upgraded to V0.85 on the same day as it's release. This comes as a quick upgrade barely a fortnight after the previous upgrade to Version 0.84.

Hello

AV Scanner upgraded to latest stable release 0.86.2 on 30th July 2005. This was released on 25th July 2005 and fixes bugs in earlier versions.

Changes in this release include fixes for three possible integer overflows in libclamav, improved scanning of Cabinet and FSG compressed files, better database handling in clamav-milter, and others.

Scan Engine updated to latest release 0.87 released on 16th September 2005. Currently at the time of writing this message, 40197 viruses are being scanned for before accepting any message. As per release notes following are the enhancements:


Release Name: 0.87

Notes: This version fixes vulnerabilities in handling of UPX and FSG compressed executables. Support for PE files, Zip and Cabinet archives has been improved and other small bugfixes have been made. The new option "--on-outdated-execute" allows freshclam to run a command when system reports a new engine version.
